Just months before the Battle of Central Park and the onset of the Second Civil War, President Obama declares martial law in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut as Montoya’s encephalopathy spreads. Despite the military’s best efforts, the government falls and Manhattan is reborn as a city-state under a military dictatorship. Survivors Mike Calaf, and Avalon Calendar struggle to survive, caught between the zombies and the new ruler of New York. But long before the zombie infection, during the First Civil War, Doctor William Jackson (of the Confederate States of America) is trying to unravel the mystery behind this strange new sickness. He knows that if Complex P fails to work, there could be devastating consequences which might influence the future of mankind.

The world has ended, the zombie Apocalypse has actually happened and the good doctor Mike is trying to survive. A perk of this whole thing is that the gorgeous Avalon, who happens to be friends with benefits with one of his friends and he wanted her. Now she's suck with him and they have plenty of time to get to know each other, until other survivors give them a proposition they can't refuse. Trying to survive zombies is one things, but surviving the other survivors may just be even harder.
Mike is a pretty awesome guy he tells it like he sees things and while he might be embarrassed by it, but he owns up to what he says. Avalon might look good on the outside, but she was always holding something back it seemed. They are happy together in some way surviving the best they can.
I enjoyed seeing how the virus came to be and that part of the storyline, but trying to figure out the past and present tense was confusing at times. When it was telling what was going to happen compared to what was happening I couldn't tell what was going on. Confused? I was too. The story has it's perks but it left me wanting especially with the ending.
