Alex (Cold Fury Hockey, #1)  by Sawyer Bennett

Cold Fury Hockey Series
New Adult Contemporary
Released October 14, 2014
Published by LoveSwept (Random House)
Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.
As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

About the Author
USA Today Best-Selling author, Sawyer Bennett, is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn’t have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.

4.5 Stars

MVP, most valuable prick, it's the title Alex wears not that he even cares. He plays because he has to he knows nothing else because that's the way his father made it. He hate hockey and if it wasn't for the money he'd be taking the higher ups demands and telling them where to shove it, instead he'll have to play nice(yeah right) and do his community service. What he wasn't expecting was Her.

Sutton knows what it's like to hide behind a mask and she deals with attitude every day so it doesn't faze her in the least. The only reason he's getting under is because he's tall, dark and oh so yummy. But this is only professional, at least that's her mantra, until her starts getting through her defenses.

Alex goes after what he wants even if it's something he's never had, like more than sex with a woman. She's getting to him in a way no one ever has, he's not sure how long it is before he screws things up but he might as well enjoy things till then.

Alex hides behind being rude and disagreeable so no one gets too close, but once you see beyond that you get to see a pretty awesome guy.

Sutton is a no nonsense kind of girl, tell it to her like it is and she'll respect you all the much more for it. She's strong and caring not doing things because she has to, but because she wants to.

They each have pasts and problems, but if they can overcome them they might just have somethings great. I loved how this story isn't just a they meet and it's insta love with a HEA, there's a great story there and I enjoyed the journey. This is a great read and I'm excited to see more of this series and its other characters finding their happy endings.
