Our Review
3.5 Stars

I did not read the first book in this series before being gifted a copy of this book and it greatly impacted my understanding of the storyline. I understood maybe 25% of the who, what, when, where, and whys of this story and definitely recommend reading book one first.

Ria is a newly turned vampire under the control of some sort of queen though I couldn't understand why this queen had so much power and why those how didn't like her didn't just leave. Ria has powers she's trying to learn to control and there's a whole host of people trying to help her.

She's smarmy and a smart ass, but when it comes to friends she's fiercely loyal and would do anything to protect them.

She also seems to have men galore at every turn, but again I could barely understand her connections to any of them.

Overall what I understood of the story intrigued me which is why I didn't give it a lower rating, but because I read this as a stand alone I was left disappointed.

Alisha Costanzo is from a Syracuse suburb. She earned her MFA in creative writing from the University of Central Oklahoma, where she currently teaches English. LOVING RED, a Broken World novel, is undergoing serious edits for its 2015 release. And novelette, "Maiden of the Underworld," will be released in anthology, DISTORTED in 2014. In the meantime, she will continue to corrupt young minds, rant about the government, and daydream about her all around nasty creatures.
